Management capacity encompasses both institutional (i.e., administrative) and technical (i.e., scientific) capacities. Investments in both are critical to advancing the coral reef conservation community implementation of coral reef conservation actions, including research, monitoring, and evaluation. This topic area is designed to understand and support the institutional capacity of on-the-ground coral reef conservation programs.
EXAMPLE PROJECTS
National
The National Coral Reef Management Fellowship is a two-year program established to respond to the need for additional coral reef management capacity in our seven coral reef states and territories.
States and Territories
This funding supports long-term partnerships between the Coral Program and the seven states and territories that are covered by the Coral Reef Conservation Act.
Pacific Region
This project strengthens disturbance prevention, mitigation, and response efforts across the U.S. Pacific coral jurisdictions of Hawai’i, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and Guam.
States and Territories
The reauthorized Coral Reef Conservation Act provides capacity-building tools for coral reef managers like the development of coral reef action plans and the establishment of stewardship partnerships.
