The CRCP has two formal report series for use by its staff for publishing CRCP-funded work, the CRCP Technical Memoranda series and the CRCP Technical Reports series. This page describes the differences between the two technical series, the process to request to print in either series, and the requirements to do so. CRCP Technical Series The CRCP has two formal report series for use by its staff for publishing CRCP-funded work, the CRCP Technical Memoranda series and the CRCP Technical Reports series. These publication venues are intended for use when the contents are not appropriate for venues such as peer-reviewed journals due to their length; inclusion of large data sets, preliminary or partial data; and other similar reasons. They are both part of the NOAA technical series. NOAA definitions for these types of series are listed below.
The CRCP uses the two series in the following manner: Data/synthesis products are published through the CRCP Technical Memoranda series and management products such as policy papers and workshop reports are published through the CRCP Technical Report series. Publications in these reports will be designated a series number which will appear on the document cover and in its citation: 'NOAA Technical Report CRCP - #' or 'NOAA Technical Memorandum CRCP - #.' Authors must request approval from the CRCP Program Manager to initiate a CRCP technical series publication. A routing form (pdf, 88 kb) has been created to simplify this process; to request that your manuscript be printed as a CRCP Technical Memorandum or Report, download and fill out this form. The form will not save properly unless completed on a PC. Instructions and responsibilities of the signatories are outlined on the back page of the form. The draft publication should pass through the internal routing dictated on the routing form; this process includes approval by the lead author's supervisor and a technical review, among other steps. Copies of all review/routing documents shall be filed with CRCP communications staff by attaching them to emails associated with the routing process. At the end of the routing process for an approved document, the CRCP will assign a series number. A document may undergo dual publication under two or more NOAA Offices’ technical series so long as all Offices approve dual publication. The routing form has space to add more steps to accommodate additional Office or LO requirements for printing, but no steps may be removed. All documents in either CRCP technical series must be published in PDF format online on the Coral Reef Information System (CoRIS) and submitted to the NOAA Central Library. CoRIS will provide the document to the NOAA Central Library after receiving it from the lead author. To request that the final PDF of an approved CRCP Technical Memorandum or Report be posted on CoRIS, the lead author should send an email request containing the materials listed here. Hard copy printing is optional and subject to the available printing budget of the lead author’s project/office. All documents must be printed—regardless of whether they exist in both PDF and hard copy, or just PDF format—in a manner consistent with minimum CRCP layout guidelines listed below.
A recommended layout template is available upon request for recommendations on layout of the remainder of the document.
